Description

ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. Mu'awiya I ibn Abi Sufyan, AH 41-60 / AD 661-680. Fals (Bronze, 19 mm, 3.84 g, 7 h), Arab-Byzantine type, Hims. K/A/Λ/O/N ('good' in Greek) downwards in left field; in field to right, mint bi-hims ('in Hims' in Kufic) Imperial bust facing, wearing diadem surmounted by cross, paludamentum and cuirass, holding globus cruciger in his right hand; in field to lower right, star. Rev. Large m between E/M/I-C/H/C; above, eight-pointed star between pellets within circles; in exergue tayyib ('good' in Kufic). DOCAB 69. SICA I, 541. Repatinated, otherwise, good very fine.
