★ An extremely rare and enigmatic issue ★
ISLAMIC, Time of the Rashidun. Pseudo-Byzantine types. Fals (Bronze, 22 mm, 2.96 g, 7 h), uncertain mint and dating. Two imperial figures standing facing, wearing crowns surmounted with crosses and chlamys, each holding globus cruciger in their hand; around, traces of blundered legend. Rev. Large m in center; above and below, horizontal line; to right and to left, traces of blundered legend. H. Pottier, I. Schulze and W. Schulze: 'Pseudo-Byzantine Coinage in Syria under Arab Rule', in: RBN 154 (2008), p. 103, passage 103. Extremely rare, H. Pottier and I. and W. Schulze knew of just four examples. Very fine.
From a collection of Arab-Byzantine and Crusader coins, formed in the 1990s.
H. Pottier, I. Schulze and W. Schulze consider this extremely rare issue to be either imitative or the result of what they call 'an accidental minting activity'.
