★ From an old Swiss collection, ex Sternberg XXV, 25 November 1991, 218 ★

PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. Time of Darios I to Xerxes II, circa 485-420 BC. Siglos (Silver, 17 mm, 5.40 g), Sardes. Persian king or hero in kneeling/running stance to right, holding spear over his right shoulder and bow in his left hand. Rev. Incuse punch. BMC Arabia pl. XXIV, 17. Carradice Type IIIb, Group A/B. A lovely example with a fine pedigree. Good very fine.
