Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Agathokles, 317-289 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.88 g, 9 h), circa 317-310. Head of Arethousa to left, wearing wreath of grain leaves, triple pendant earring and pearl necklace; around, three dolphins; below neck, [NI]. Rev. ΣYPAKOΣ[IΩN] Charioteer driving quadriga galloping to left, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left; above, triskeles running left; in exergue, monogram of AI. HGC 2, 1348. Ierardi 31 (O6/R15). SNG ANS 638 ( same obverse die ). Nicely toned. Light scratches and with traces of cleaning on the obverse and some horn silver on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. med. Cora Flinsch (1920-2022), formed since the 1970s, received as a present.
