Description

Elagabalus, 218-222. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.08 g, 6 h), Rome, 221. IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG Laureate head of Elagabalus to right. Rev. P M TR P IIII COS III P P Sol, radiate, advancing left, raising his right hand in salute and holding whip in his left; in field to left, star. BMC 242. Cohen 184. RIC 40. A lustrous and nicely toned piece. The obverse struck from a slightly worn die, otherwise, virtually as struck.

From the S. Pozzi Collection, privately purchased from Münzen & Medaillen at the 9th international coin fair in Basel on 2 February 1980.
