LYDIA. Nysa. Gordian III, 238-244. Hexassarion (Orichalcum, 38 mm, 23.65 g, 6 h), Aur. Mousonius, grammateus and hiereus. ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΑΥ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. Ε ΠΙ ΓΡ ΑΥΡ ΜΟΥϹΩΝΙ૪ ΙΕΡΕΩϹ / ΝΥϹΑΕΩΝ Herakles, on the left, standing front, head to right, leaning left on club set on rock and placing his right hand on his hip; on the right, Hermes standing facing, head to left and wearing petasos, holding purse in his right hand and kerykeion in his left. Regling 167. RPC VII.1 471 ( same dies ). SNG Copenhagen 326. Very rare, the best of now four known examples. A bold and attractive coin struck on a very broad flan. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.
