Basil I the Macedonian, with Leo VI and Alexander, 867-886. Half Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.18 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis. bASILIO' AЧς Bust of Basil I facing, with short beard, wearing loros and crown surmounted by cross, holding cross potent in his right hand and probably an akakia in his left. Rev. [LЄOn CЄ] ALЄZA Facing beardless busts of Leo VI and Alexander, each wearing cross and chlamys; between their heads, star above cross. CNG E-Auction 280 (2012), 363. DOC 13 var. (without star and cross). Numismad E-Auction 3 (2022), 1114. SB 1722 var. (without star and cross). Extremely rare. Slightly rough and with minor areas of weakness, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Prof. Dr. Hans-Ulrich Geiger, privately acquired from the famous architect and numismatist, Dr. Franz Füeg (1921-2019), on 15 March 1997 (with collector's ticket).
