LOCAL ISSUES. Türgesh Kaghans of Semirech’e, Wahshutawa, 8th century. Cash (Bronze, 22 mm, 3.74 g). Around a central square hole, ‘xwtʾw wxšwtʾwy pny’, i.e. ‘xutāw Waxšutāw-ē pan-i’ (‘Coin of King Wahshutawa’ in Sogdian). Rev. Large semi-circular tamgha of Türgesh, a runic symbol, and the Chinese character 元 ‘yuán’. Smirnova 1585. Extremely rare. Very weak and with scratches, otherwise, fine.
