Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.55 g, 12 h), Antiochia, July 326. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to left. Rev. CONSTAN/TINVS / CAESAR / SMANTЄ in four lines; above, star; below, pellet. RIC 59. The reverse a bit weak and with minor scrapes on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, privately acquired from Wayne G. Sayles in May 1996.
The officinae striking for Constantine Caesar were A, B, Γ, Δ, Є, and H, although not all at the same time. Of these, officina Γ struck only for a short time and was unknown to Bruun (and therefore absent in RIC VII).
