Description

★ A fresh and sharp posthumous tetradrachm of Lysimachos from Byzantion ★

KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.38 g, 11 h), Byzantion, circa 175-150 BC. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩ[Σ] - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield decorated with gorgoneion; to inner left, monogram; on throne, BY; in exergue, ornamented trident to left. De Callataÿ Group 3, p. 124. Marinescu 124. Müller 224 var. (slightly differing monogram). Fresh and sharp. Light die breaks on the obverse and the reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, good extremely fine.
