Description

LUCANIA. Herakleia. Circa 330/25-281 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 19 mm, 7.74 g, 6 h). ՒHPAKΛHIΩN Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with Skylla hurling a stone on the bowl; behind her neck, K. Rev. ΑΘΑ Herakles standing facing, holding club in his right hand and bow and arrow in his left; lion skin draped over his left arm; to upper left, skyphos. HGC 1, 981. HN Italy 1384. Van Keuren 84. Harshly cleaned and struck from a slightly worn reverse die, otherwise, very fine.
