★ A lustrous and fresh shekel from Tarentum ★

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Punic occupation, circa 212-209 BC. Half Shekel (Silver, 20 mm, 3.85 g, 6 h), Sokannas, magistrate. ΣΩKANNAΣ Warrior on horseback right, holding filleted palm frond in his right hand. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding kantharos in his right hand and trident in his left; to right, eagle with spread wings standing left. HN Italy 1082. Vlasto 984. Lustrous and fresh. A few light marks, otherwise, good extremely fine.
