★ An attractive Archaic didrachm from Tarentum ★

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 490-480 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 19 mm, 8.05 g, 5 h). ΤΑΡΑΣ Youthful oikist, nude and with long hair, riding dolphin to right, holding octopus in his right hand and extending his left; cable border. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Hippocamp to right; below, cockle shell; rayed border. Fischer-Bossert 45 (V19/R36). HN Italy 827. Vlasto 120. Somewhat rought and with a tiny die break on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
