Description

CILICIA. Tarsus. Hadrian, 117-138. Tridrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 10.74 g, 12 h). ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ ΘΕ ΤΡ ΠΑΡ ΥΙ ΘΕ ΝΕΡ ΥΙ ΤΡ ΑΔΡΙΑΝΟϹ ϹE Laureate head of Hadrian to right, with slight drapery on his left shoulder. Rev. ΤΑΡ/ϹΕWΝ - ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΕWϹ City-goddess, turreted and veiled, seated left, holding palm in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left; to left at feet, river-god Kydnos, crowned with wreath of sedge, swimming left. Prieur 759. RPC III 3259. Some graffiti on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
