Description

THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 189/8-49/5 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 14.67 g, 1 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing taenia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. ΔIONYΣOY - [Σ]ΩTHPOΣ / MAPΩNITΩN Dionysos standing front, head to left, holding grapes in his right hand and narthex stalks in his left; to inner left and right, monogram. HGC 3.2, 1556. Schönert-Geiss 1221-1231. SNG Copenhagen 639. Minor deposits on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.

From a German collection, formed in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
