Description

THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 189/8-49/5 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 15.57 g, 12 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing tainia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. ΔIONYΣOY - ΣΩTHPOΣ / MAPΩNITΩ[N] Dionysos standing front, head to left, holding grapes in his right hand and narthex stalks in his left; in inner left field, monogram of MH; in inner right field, monogram of NO. HGC 3.2, 1556. Schönert-Geiss 1350-1. A few faint scratches, otherwise, about extremely fine.
