Description

Diadumenian, as Caesar, 217-218. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.58 g, 12 h), Rome, March-June 218. M OPEL ANT DIADVMENIAN CAES Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Diadumenian to right, seen from behind. Rev. SPES PVBLICA Spes advancing left, holding flower in her right hand and raising skirt with her left. BMC -, cf. 94 (bust draped only). Clay issue 3. Cohen -, cf. 21 (bust draped only). RIC 116. A nicely toned example. Minor deposits and the obverse a bit weak, otherwise, very fine.

From a collection formed in the Rhineland from the late 1970s to the late 1990s, acquired from Münzhandlung Ritter (with original dealer's ticket).
