Description

Macrinus, 217-218. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.70 g, 2 h), Rome, March-June 218. IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Macrinus to right, seen from behind. Rev. PROVIDENTIA DEORVM Providentia standing front, head to left, holding baton over globe in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. BMC -. Clay Issue 3. Cohen -. RIC 80 var. (bust draped or cuirassed only). A very rare bust variety. The reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.

From a collection formed in the Rhineland from the late 1970s to the late 1990s, privately acquired from Dr. Walter Kimpel (with original dealer's ticket).
