★ A particularly wild imitation ★

LOWER DANUBE. Imitations of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 35 mm, 16.38 g, 3 h). Celticized head of Dionysos to right, wearing wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. Celticized Herakles standing facing, arms outstretched with dotted lines extending downward from each; below, fishbone pattern; legend degraded to dots. Dembski -. Flesche -. Lanz -. Lukanc -. OTA Class V. A particularly wild imitation struck on an exceptionally broad flan. Minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
