PHRYGIA. Hierapolis. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Pentassarion (Bronze, 31 mm, 18.69 g, 6 h), time of the Severans, 193-235. Bearded head of Herakles to right, with club over his left shoulder. Rev. IЄPAΠOΛЄITΩN Asklepios standing front, head to left, leaning right on serpent-entwined staff. BMC -, cf. 50-53 (for obverse). SNG Copenhagen -. SNG Leypold -. Apparently unpublished save for its previous auction appearance. An impressive issue of vigorous style. Minor corrosion on the reverse and partially retoned, otherwise, good very fine.
