Description

★ An exceptional diobol from Tarentum ★

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 380-325 BC. Diobol (Silver, 12 mm, 1.25 g, 2 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing laureate and crested Attic helmet and pearl necklace. Rev. Herakles kneeling right, holding lowered club in his right hand and strangling the Nemean lion with his left arm. HN Italy 911. SNG ANS 1428 ( same obverse die ). Vlasto 1341. A fresh, clear and exceptional example. Tiny scratch on the obverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.
