★ Extremely rare, apparently only the third known example ★

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 32 mm, 16.00 g, 12 h), Mesembria. Alphi... and Hero..., magistrates, circa 100-72. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in inner left field, ΑΛΦΙ above helmet; below throne, HPO. Callataÿ - . Karayotov -. Price -. Roma Numismatics XIX (2020), 13 ( same dies ). Extremely rare, apparently only the third known example. Beautifully toned. Thin flan crack and with minor corrosion, otherwise, very fine.
