Description

Peter I gold 2 Roubles 1722 AU58 NGC, Moscow mint, KM158.6, Bit-143 (R1), Petrov 15 Rub. (Plate 27, 180), Diakov-1212 (R2). Large head variety. Obv. Laureate, armored, and mantled portrait of Peter I right. Rev. St. Andrew standing, facing, holding cross. A stunning, fully struck example with bright mint luster and surfaces free of all but the most minute marks. Only a hint of rubbing is visible on the high points. Exceedingly rare in this near-mint condition, with NGC and PCGS each having certified one example finer. This is the finest example we have seen. From the holdings of the famous Paris numismatic firm Emile Bourgey, and sold here with a sales receipt from 19 November 1973, and an insurance form from the firm Nordstern of the same year. Ex. Emile Bourgey
