Anne gold 5 Guineas 1709 MS61 PCGS, KM532, S-3567. OCTAVO edge. A seemingly impossible Mint State offering of this rarified type, among the scarcest post-union issues to locate at auction, especially at this advanced tier of preservation. Auction records of the last two decades admit the second-lowest instance of occurrence, bested only by the 1713 date by only a handful of appearances. Prior to this selection, we have handled just three others of this date, the best of those an AU58+ that brought $132,000 all-in at our August 2023 ANA auction. Any Mint State offering from this series is a conditional outlier. Here, ample original luster breathes across the flan, appearing quite energetic on the more expansive reverse fields. Anne's sensitively rendered portrait and the opposite arms are boldly struck and minimally handled, just some stray marks break up the die polish lines in the fields. With this being the sole-finest entry at PCGS, and only two representatives submitted higher to NGC, we are sure this opportunity will be met with resounding enthusiasm for those looking to obtain one of the finest extant examples of the type.
