Republic Sun Yat-sen Specimen Pattern 1/2 Dollar (50 Cents) Year 25 (1936) SP63 PCGS, KM-Pn169, L&M-114, Kann-635, Wenchao-927 (rarity 3 stars). One of the notable rarities from the Sun Yat-sen series, and part of a group of Patterns proposed with a smaller diameter and slightly altered Junk design from previous Sun Yat-sen issues. Of note, it is debated whether these issues were struck at the San Francisco mint or the Central Mint of Shanghai, with Kann purporting the latter. The Choice preservation is more than evident here, the flan taking on a glowing champagne-rose aura that scintillates in hand, enlivening every intricacy of the Junk sails and waterlines on the reverse. Our specimen bears the second-highest grade at PCGS, with none graded higher at NGC, a conditional situation to be envied. HID09801242017 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
