Description

Victoria gold Sovereign 1838 MS65 NGC, KM736.1, S-3852. One of the rarest years of Victoria's Sovereign, and the first year of issue under the young Queen. Exceptionally rare in grades above AU, this impressive gem specimen is certainly one of the finest known (currently surpassed by just one specimen in technical grade across both NGC and PCGS). When one looks at this mint-fresh, first-year Sovereign, one can just imagine receiving it in change (the transaction would have to be rather large, of course) and gaining a first glimpse of the Queen on her new coinage, where she would remain for the next 63 years. Beaming with cartwheel luster, sleek surfaces bear only minor contact marks in line with the premium grade; an enticing example of this rare-year Sovereign, for the selective collector.
