Description

William IV gold Proof 1/2 Sovereign 1831 PR64 NGC, KM716, S-3830, W&R-267 (R3). Small flan. A superlative specimen from William IV's Coronation Proof Set, exceptionally made and with an ‘ultra cameo' worthy portrait (not marked as such presumably due to the age of the holder). Its fields bear light die-polish lines adding an enticing undercurrent of texture to the otherwise mirror surfaces, the frosted legends floating atop; the planchet is an exquisite honey-gold in color, the overall effect simply gorgeous. Not a piece easy to match for eye appeal or technical quality.
