George IV Proof 6 Pence 1821 PR63 Cameo NGC, KM678, S-3813. A conservatively graded example from this enigmatic and scarcely documented coronation proof set. Produced during the modern renaissance of British coinage in which engraving and production quality hugely improved within a decade; the elaborately garnished reverse shield and George's shallow yet lifelike portrait are testament to these increased standards. Bright white and reflective in the centers, quickly toning into a sea of iridescence in the fields, the King's portrait lightly frosted in line with the 'cameo' designation assigned by NGC. The absence of wear, contact marks or hairlines leads one to believe that this piece is worthy of a near-gem or even gem level grade, its brightness and beauty rendering it a veritable numismatic jewel. A superb representative, and worthy of a premium bid.
