Description

George III gold 'Beilby Porteus' Prize Medal 1808 MS60 NGC, 42mm, 41.92gm, BHM-632, Eimer-991. Awarded annually by Christ's College Cambridge for excellence in the reading of the Holy Scriptures; although it bears the portrait of George III and date 1808, these medals were issued for decades of the same design. This particular example was awarded to P. Pennington in 1846. Peppered with contact marks and grazes to the field, this medal has clearly encountered considerable handling but no actual wear. Of rich color and well-executed, this would be an interesting addition to any collection of gold school medals.
