Description

BABYLONIA. Alexandrine Empire. Stamenes-Seleucus (ca. 328-311 BC). AV double-daric (18mm, 16.59 gm). NGC Choice Fine 4/5 - 3/5, flan flaw. Babylon, imitating Achaemenid Empire. Persian king or hero, wearing cidaris and candys with row of jewels on hem, quiver over left shoulder, in kneeling-running stance right, transverse spear in right hand, bow forward in left; no control marks / Wavy-patterned punch in incuse circle. Unpublished without control marks, but reverse die style similar to Classical Numismatic Group, Triton XX (10 January 2017), lot 377. Matte surfaces with areas of toning.
