Qing Dynasty. Wen Zong (Xian Feng) Mother Coin Cash ND (1851-1853) Certified 85 by Gong Bo Grading, Board of Revenue mint (East Branch). Hartill-22.675, Jen-1608, FD-2411. 23.3mm. 5gm. A highly-attractive piece with uniformly toned surfaces and sharp motifs as one expects from these coveted Mother types. Mother coins were key-pieces in the Cash coinage process. They were the first casts of molds obtained from the engraved master, also known as Ancestor coins, which were carved by engravers and later presented to the Emperor. Mother coins are easily identifiable from their much higher quality in casting leading to more pronounced characters. Such issues were later used to make several molds for casting the circulating issues. Treasures from the W & L Collection HID09801242017 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
