Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar ND (1897) MS62 NGC, Nanking mint, KM-Y145.1, L&M-210A, Kann-66d. Herringbone (Ornamental) edge. Variety with crossbars on A's in KIANGNAN barely visible. The storied first-year dragon Dollar of the Kiangnan province produced at the newly established mint in the capital of Nanking. The quality of the example at hand is encountered altogether infrequently for the type. In fact, of the twenty or so representatives that our firm has handled in the past two decades, only one has been a straight-graded example, an AU53 that we sold in 2020. Sitting at the third-highest grade point on the NGC census, the current offering exudes the quality and eye-appeal one would expect from near-Choice preservation. Strong swirling-arm luster circumnavigates the almost-uniform pewter patina, the golden tones appearing particularly saturated during in-hand inspection. Just a hint of even rub across the devices confirms the designation, hardly to the detriment of the specimen's overall composure. A prime candidate for those eager to upgrade this type in their cabinet. HID09801242017 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
