Zurich. Canton gold 6 Ducat 1624 MS61 NGC, KM-A44 (Rare), Fr-442a (Very Rare), HMZ-Unl., Divo-Unl. 20.52gm. Struck from Taler dies (cf. KM37). Of immense importance to the Swiss collector, both for its absolute rarity and visual allure. While 6 Ducat issues can be found with moderate frequency from the largest Cantons, notably Basel and Bern, those of Zurich are especially difficult to locate and thus, sought-after. Every feature of this outlier rises in clean contrast against its surrounding glasslike canvas, glistening at every rotation of the wrist. Entirely missing from all major collections of Swiss coinage we have been able to consult, including Stroehlin, Hirzel, the South Kensington Museum, Fatio, Hess-Leu's Schweizer Goldmünzen sale, and most notably Wunderly. As such, we anticipate an elevated bidder presence when this fine example crosses the auction block. Ex.
