William & Mary silver "Battle of La Hogue" Medal 1692 MS61 NGC MI-59-259 var. (in bronze). 42mm. By Georg Hautsch. Obv. Laureate and armored bust of William III. Rev. Naval engagement scene. A particularly handsome rendition of this already scarce Medal type, one that generates fervent bidding when brought to auction, but even more so when lacking the engraver's initials as is seen here. Lavender-tinged expanses host a decidedly sensitive rendering of William, while the reverse displays a painstaking attention to detail with numerous ships engaged in battle. Cobalt silhouettes embellish the piece at hand, and as the sole piece having come to market in recent decades as confirmed by a survey of auction results, is expected to draw significant interest from quality-conscious collectors of the British historical series.
