Description

British India. Victoria silver Proof Piefort Pattern Rupee 1860 AU Details (Holed) NGC, Royal mint, KM-Pn27, Prid-48, S&W-4.29. Plain edge. Medal alignment. A sufficiently rare Pattern striking for Victoria's new bust type, seen here impressed upon a double-thick planchet and likely holed for suspension. A wonderful Leonard Charles Wyon design incorporating similar features witnessed on his father's "Gothic" series and donning more traditional garb. While clearly exhibiting numerous conditional qualifiers, the rarity of the coin at hand cannot be understated, with only a handful coming to market in recent decades. Despite muted surfaces perhaps indicative of an earlier cleaning, the remnant detail is strong and easily discernible and bathed in steely appearances. A must-have for the British India collector.
