Alexander II Rouble 1861 CПБ-ФБ MS63 PCGS, St. Petersburg mint, KM-Y25, Dav-289, Bit-72 (R1). An incredible yet unassuming rarity among Rouble issues of Alexander II. To find a piece at the top of either conditional census, bested by no other, with a most advanced aesthetic caliber is a seldom-seen occurrence to say the least and one that should not be missed by even the most advanced collectors of this popular series. Hardly a trace of weakness is detected throughout, as one comes to expect from this era of Russian coinage, each intricate detail rendered fully onto the argent planchet, relaying a sort of cameo effect to the crowned arms and flanked by a vibrant palette of polychromatic hues. For the sake of accuracy, two scrapes to the obverse preclude this piece from an even finer designation, but do little to distract even the most scrupulous collector from the overall appeal of this captivating representative.
