Description

Maximilian Peso 1866-Mo MS65+ NGC, Mexico City mint, KM388.1, Elizondo-172, Grove-5433. From a usually crude issue, of which shallow-strike Mint State pieces are the outliers from the heavily circulated survivors, this surreal offering stands above most. Presenting a needle-point strike, fully rendering even the most fine and intricate motifs, this semi-glossy and somewhat reflective piece is surely worthy of the plus designation so few of these ever attain. Dressed in a lovely smooth patina, this premium gem stands in the cusp of the graded population, bested by just two MS66 examples, and will likely engage Mexican type collectors vying for only the finest.
