Naples & Sicily. Ferdinand the Catholic gold Ducado (Ducat) ND (1504-1516)-IT MS63 NGC, Naples mint, Fr-828, MIR-117/4 (R3), OIE-41. +FERNANDVS • D | G • R • AR • V • SIC (annulet stops), crowned bust of Ferdinand right / FERNANDVS • D • G • R • AR • V • SI (annulet stops), crowned shield containing the arms of Leon, Castile, Aragon, Hungary, France, and Jerusalem, I-T to either side. Undeniably covetable preservation for this already rare type, sharply struck and carefully engraved throughout every facet of the design. Most frequently found with broad swathes of flatness in the margins, this specimen demonstrates full legibility, suffering no loss of detail on account of its slightly irregularly shaped flan. Still the sole example of the issue we have ever handled. Ex. Deb-Ann Collection (Heritage Auction #3009, January 2009, Lot 21702); The International Collection (Stack's March 1988, Lot 2114)
