Solms-Laubach. Christian August Taler 1770-WWE MS63 NGC, Wertheim mint, KM35, Dav-2785, Schön-13, Joseph-456. Commemorating the completion of the monument to Grave Otto, founder of the Line of Solms-Laubach. An altogether unsurpassed piece whose absolute rarity in this condition can hardly be questioned. Taken from a portrait of Otto on a cast medal by Hans Schwarz from 1520, the engraver's skill is here on full display, capturing an exquisite style that leaves nothing to the imagination. What at first seems to be a dark, nacreous patina reveals a full plethora violet, peach, and rosaceous color when viewed under good light, creating a sunset-like effect in the sky surrounding the monument on the reverse. Notable as a type missing from the Köhlmoos Collection, we would note that the Kansas specimen we recently offered in May, only an AU58, brought $2400, indicating that this top-graded specimen should be very well received.
