Hesse-Cassel. Friedrich II Taler 1776 BR UNC Details (Obverse Cleaned) NGC, Cassel mint, KM516, Dav-2303, Schön-151, Hoffmeister-2468. A fine rendition of the infamous "Blood Taler" used to pay the 22,000 Hessian mercenaries sent to fight with the British during the Revolutionary War. Doubly important to collectors, both because of the date and association with American independence, and scarce in anything resembling Mint State. Despite the faint evidence of a prior cleaning is visible via light hairlines and an overall muted appearance to the fields and devices, the overall appearances are commendable, with an especially fine reverse and certainly worthy of further consideration.
