Hesse-Cassel. Wilhelm V "Willow Tree" Taler 1637-LH MS63 NGC, Cassel mint, KM162.5, Dav-6762 var. (there, with 5 steeples), Fiorino Collection-Unl., Hoffmeister-1072. Variety with 4 steeples on 4 buildings. A fantastic entry within the Thirty Years' War commemorative Taler series owing to its unique allegorical imagery, meant to reflect the effects of the conflict on Hesse-Cassel--Wilhelm V's Calvinism and support of Sweden during which ultimately led to the devastation of his territories by the Holy Roman Emperor. Preserved at a typically unthinkable level of quality that was clearly recognized by its inclusion in such cabinets as Goodman and Millennia, this particular variety with only 4 houses instead of the usual 5 appears to be of the utmost scarcity, and was altogether missing from the Alexander Fiorino Collection. Of the highest desirability as such, and a coin which begs to be examined in hand to be fully appreciated. Ex. Millennia Collection (Goldberg Auction 46B, May 2008, Lot 613); Irving Goodman Collection (Goldberg Auction 15, June 2002, Lot 451) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
