Description

Brandenburg-Ansbach. Alexander Taler 1779-G MS64 NGC, Schwabach mint, KM315, Dav-2019, Schön-164, Wilmersdörffer-1102, Grüber Collection-4682. Absolutely gorgeous and available only twice on the market in the last 76 years, the term "star eye appeal" does not even begin to express this coin's unique visual appeal. Slate gray when viewed head-on, tipping the coin at an angle under even indirect light releases an entirely nacreous toning palette, with every shade from pink, seafoam, lapis lazuli, orange peel, jade, violet, topaz, to turquoise finds full occasion for expression, providing one of the most attractive visual backdrops to a Taler that the cataloger has seen. For the sake of comparison, we would note that we have sold the single example certified finer--an MS65--for $4817 in January 2016. Ex. Jon Kardatzke Collection, Part III (Goldberg Auction 5, June 2000, Lot 4456); Privately purchased from Ira S. Reed on February 27, 1946 From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
