Description

Bavaria. Karl Theodor Thaler 1794-AS MS65 PCGS, Mannheim mint, KM560.3, Dav-1959, Wittelsbach-2415, Hahn-393. Struck for the Rheinpfalz. Almost unfathomably fine for what is otherwise a poorly prepared and preserved mintage, struck on flans notoriously plagued by haymarking. Apparently tied with just one other MS65 at NGC, the piece couples resplendent cartwheel luster with a rainbow of peripheral tone in a truly gorgeous display, stray contact generally absent from the surfaces, while those haymarks which do exist being light, spotty, and rapidly dismissable. A pinnacle representative for the second-to-last date for this Mannheim-minted type. Ex. Leu Numismatik Auction 89 (October 2003, Lot 123) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
