Description

Baden. Karl Ludwig Friedrich Taler 1819-D MS65 NGC, Mannheim mint, KM169, Dav-515, AKS-25, Thun-15. Date reworked from 1818. The undisputed key-date for this 6-year type despite being of an unknown mintage, assigned a catalog value over twice that of the 1816 (35,666 struck); seemingly only a singular pair of dies was employed in this year, which had to be reworked from the previous date. The date's rarity is made all the more poignant by the general paucity of examples having appeared on auction in recent decades, and its absence from numerous major collections, including Köhlmoos and Brand. Currently the top of just two certified at NGC, with none yet seen by PCGS, and a coin which more than earns this distinction. Ex. Johann Max Böttcher Collection (Harald Möller Auction 42, November-December 2006, Lot 72) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
