Description

Hupeh. Kuang-hsü "Small Characters" Tael Year 30 (1904) MS62 NGC, Wuchang mint, KM-Y128.2, L&M-180, Kann-933, Chang-CH135, WS-0878, Wenchao-583 (rarity 1 star), Shi Jiagan Collection-360, Chang Foundation-Unl. Small characters variety. An already minimally available type, let alone in firmly Mint State preservation and on the very cusp of choice status, with the abundance of silky fresh texture that can be seen here far surpassing what is typically encountered. Existing practically free of tone, the present example comes with exceedingly crisp reliefs which appear nearly propelled from the fields by virtue of the coin's ample original luster. An admitted smattering of bag marks bounds the designation just shy of a finer technical grade, though even scrupulous inspection of the surfaces reveals that this piece has been minimally handled. While slightly more common than its Large Characters counterpart, interest in this issue has certainly not dwindled in present years, with premium representatives demanding high premiums among collectors.
