Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1723-BB Mirliton MS62 NGC, Strasbourg mint, KM468.3, Gad-338 (R3), Dup-1638A, L4L-465 (R3). Short palms variety. Extremely scarce, evidenced by a single auction appearance in the last twenty years and missing from the major collections of Ford and Partrick, as well as from the cargo of the Le Chameau sold in the 1971 Parke-Bernet sale. This Strasbourg-minted Louis d'Or is only one of an exceedingly small handful still extant today, none as finely preserved as this, with notable reflectivity of the fields elevating the young king's delightfully detailed bust, the reverse punctuated by an abundance of visually interesting adjustment marks and watery resplendence.
