Louis XIV Douzain (15 Deniers) 1658-A AU58 NGC, Paris mint, KM197, Ciani-1976, Breen-273 (Extremely Rare), Gad-86 (R4), Dup-1579, L4L-169 (R4). 22mm. A mesmerizing and exceedingly scarce issue, with the diameter of a Demi-Douzain, but without NGC noting a weight, we are unable to confirm its status. We do note that the Ford specimen retained the full weight of a Douzain with the same diameter as here. Regardless, the piece remains one of surprisingly few examples to have surfaced in recent memory, coincidentally only a few months after an UNC Details piece we offered in August of 2021. Dressed in an mellow gunmetal patina with light splashes a color intermingled throughout, and decidedly razor-sharp motifs.
