Jean II le Bon (1350-1364) gold Ecu d'Or a la chaise ND (from 1351) Clipped NGC, Paris mint, Fr-276, Dup-289. 3.42gm. 1st Emission (from 18 March 1351). +IOhΛnnЄS: DЄI | •• GRΛ •• | FRΛnCORVN: RЄX, Jean seated facing on Gothic throne, a sword in right hand, left resting on a shield / + XPC: VIИCIT: XPC: RЄGIИΛT: XPC: IИPЄRΛT (double saltire stops), cross fleurée within quadrilobe, leaves on points and trefoils in spandrels. A piece which has suffered surprisingly little given that it has been trimmed to nearly a gram underweight, suggesting that it was initially minted on a reasonably broad flan. Though unevenly struck, it appears to the cataloger than the base condition of the coin is About Uncirculated.
