British Colony. Victoria Proof Cent 1880 PR65 Red and Brown PCGS, Heaton mint, KM4.3, Prid-173A, Sweeny-HK2. An engaging representative of the ever-popular Victorian Proof coins of Hong Kong, with so few examples extant despite her incredibly long reign. Draped in mellow copper tones tinged with an undercurrent of tangerine and magenta that lends to the advanced aesthetic caliber of the piece at hand. We note that the Newman specimen offered in 2014 realized $7,050 as a PR64, and the only other example to have sold in recent memory. With only 5 certified between the major grading services for this date, the present example is tied for the finest technical grade, with a single example bestowed the covetable Red designation.
