Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar CD 1902 MS64 NGC, Nanking mint, KM-Y145a.8, L&M-247, Kann-93, Chang-CH78, WS-0844. Variety with HAH and slanted dot at the top of Yin. A show-stopping offering to say the least, and a grade level which should be counted as extremely rare for any Dragon Dollar from Kiangnan, with only 24 pieces from the entire series ranking in the Gem Mint State tier or finer at PCGS. Indeed, both there and at NGC, no examples surpass the present piece. The reverse (obverse as holdered) comes imbued with an incredibly distinctive nacreous tone, subtly charcoal overtones revealing a mixture of jade color around the word PROVINCE and sapphire towards the beginning of the denomination, all while demonstrating a pull-away effect throughout. Perhaps even more entrancing, however, is the coin's true obverse, a hint of rosé patination towards the edges creating a pleasing framing device for clean waves of cartwheel luster. By all indications, the nicest example to come to market in many years.
